tom paulin oxford university::He is also a poet and academic commentator of international standing, with a famously acute ear and charismatic voice.
Young lecturer at hertford college oxford.
His academic works include studies of thomas hardy, william hazlitt, and poetry and the nation state; he is also a bestselling contemporary poet and editor of the faber book of political verse and of vernacular verse.
His meticulous editing of the old english poem beowulf for oxford university press has been of value to such translators as seamus heaney, who delivered the first george jack memorial lecture in st andrews in 1999.
Other notable poetry events this semester include readings by the poets susan wheeler, henry shukman, and paul muldoon.
